Art & Design

Since I was a little kid, making art has always been a normal part of life. My mom is an artist and taught youth art classes from our home (our dining room was rechristened “the art room”), so I grew up surrounded by rolls of paper, boxes of clay, watercolor trays… And while I’ve never really considered myself to be an artist (or put in enough practice), I still make time for small creative works, and anytime I’m working on a project that requires a visual component, I tend to do it myself.

Here are some of the art & design projects I’ve been working on:

Drawing
Mostly sketches done in pen on paper. Projects include greeting cards, comic strips and other small things.
Illustration
Many of the writing projects have a visual element. I’ve illustrated them with pen, mixed media, brush and ink.
Graphic Design
I design logos, album covers, etc. for personal projects, and have done basic design tasks for projects at work.
Printing
I’ve made a few printed works, mostly screen printing and some letterpress.
Book Design
I do the layout and design for my own writing projects.
Photography
I take as many cellphone snapshots as the next guy, and I’m also working on my DSLR skills.
Websites
I’m not a real web designer, but I can build a basic site (like this one) and have led a few big web design projects.
